Historic Charm
Marshall is home to one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the Nation and proudly demonstrates this fact through the Historic Marshall Home Tour, which takes place annually. The Home Tour is a Marshall tradition with thirty-plus years allowing citizens to show their hospitality and historical treasures to thousands of visitors who come from all over the country to see the homes and businesses reminiscent of days gone by. Marshall’s downtown is in the heart of a National Historic Landmark District and features many unique boutiques, restaurants, antique stores and gift shops, which draws visitors from across the country. Marshall was also named one of the “Dozen Distinctive Destinations of 2004” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Downtown Marshall
In June 2003, Marshall’s already successful downtown took an important step forward toward a vision of comprehensive revitalization with its Michigan Main Street designation. One of only four communities in the State to receive the competitive grant selection in 2003, Marshall’s downtown and its businesses received three years of initial training and technical assistance to launch their revitalization goals. Today, the Main Street program continues to thrive. A new Main Street Manager was recently hired, the Main Street Board continues to be dedicated to the goals of the program and ongoing efforts of the four requisite Main Street subcommittees all help to ensure the continued grass-roots downtown development effort.
